You Remind Me

I have been trying all month to find the time to play with this Viva la Verve sketch. I love the random mess of twine on this sketch and want to play around with the design some more on future projects. I was inspired by the beautiful photo over at The Shabby Tea Room and also wanted to link up with the Anything Goes challenge over at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge. This card is for a very special lady, my mom, for Mother's Day.
Paper - Kraft, Black cardstock; Brushed patterned paper (CTMH); Stamps - Words of Wisdom (Verve);
Embellishments - Black twine, Gold sequins (CTMH). Shapes cut from CTMH Art Philosophy Cricut cartridge.

Anything Goes at H2H

For our last challenge this month at Heart2Heart, we've decided to really open it up to Anything Goes, Close To My Heart style. I knew for sure that I wanted to create something using the fun new pack, Taste of Summer, that we will be offering during the month of May to celebrate National Scrapbooking Month!
All supplies are Close To My Heart:
Paper - White Daisy, Black cardstock; Taste of Summer paperpack; Ink - Thistle, Juniper, Honey;
Stamps - Hooray Bouquet; Embossing folder - Quatrefoil; Cricut Cartridges - Art Philosophy, Artfully Sent.

I enjoyed creating my sunburst card so much that I wanted to try it out on a larger scale. I found this fantastic video to give me a baseline for my design and modified the sizes to accommodate my 8x8 house album.

Hope to see you in the Heart2Heart gallery!

Two Hearts Become One

Here is a card I made for my sister-in-law-to-be's wedding shower using this Deconstructed Sketch and the colours from Colour My Heart Colour Dare. I had to take the picture at a bit of a funny angle so that you could see the silver embossing!

Paper - Colonial White cardstock, Brushed patterned paper; Ink - Slate, Pixie;
Stamps - Love & Marriage (PTI); Embellishments - Slate twine; Silver embossing powder.

CTMH Seasonal Expressions 2

Close To My Heart has a new mini-catalogue that is now live until August!
I made a little project from the Seasonal Expressions 2 catalogue using a couple of my favourite new stamp sets and one of the new paper packs, Blossom.

Bolognese Ravioli in a Spicy Tomato Sauce

This is a lengthy recipe (3 hours start -> finish), but totally worth it!

Bolognese Ravioli in a Spicy Tomato Sauce

Bolognese filling
1/2 lb ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork
1 carrot, coarsely chopped
1 celery stick, coarsely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 cup Merlot
8 Roma tomatoes, chopped
1 small block Alpindon cheese, shredded

Brown beef and pork in a saucepan. Once coloured, add carrot, celery, and garlic and cook for 10 minutes. Add wine and simmer away. Next, add tomatoes and one glass of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for approximately 1 hour with the lid on. Afterwards, remove from heat and stir in shredded cheese.

Pasta dough
3 cups flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. olive oil
1 cup approx. warm water, depending on consistency

Using a KitchenAid mixer, combine all ingredients except water. Gradually add in the water, watching the consistency (you want the dough moist but not sticky). Next, attach dough hook and use on speed 2 for two minutes. Cover bowl with a wet tea towel and let stand for 20 minutes.

Roll out dough into a long cylinder and cut into 1/2 inch chunks. Using the Pasta Roller attachment for the KitchenAid mixer, roll out the dough chunks to a thickness of 4.

To assemble ravioli, lay out a sheet of pasta, brush with egg, add a teaspoon of bolognese filling, cover with another sheet of pasta, and stamp out using a cookie cutter or pasta stamp. Ensure edges are sealed. Drop into boiling water for a few minutes and gently drain.

Spicy Tomato Sauce
1 398mL can tomato sauce
Fresh Basil
Red chili flakes
2 cloves garlic, crushed

Add ingredients to a saucepan to warm. Serve over cooked ravioli. Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves.
