It's back-to-school in BC this week and I'm feeling for all of my teacher friends and colleagues during this uncertain time. Our nephew is starting kindergarten this fall so I wanted to make him a special card to go along with the book we got him - The Pigeon HAS to go to School by Mo Williams (read this book - it's hilarious!).

I knew I wanted to use the Village Heroes set with the school bus and schoolhouse. I stamped them onto Canson Coldpress watercolour paper and coloured them with my Tombow markers in the colours of his new school. I used a white gelly pen to add some details.

For my background, I cut out an apple shape from my Cricut and used it as a stencil to do an ink blended background. I wanted to keep the background in realistic apple colours while still making it a somewhat natural scene so I blended Mowed Lawn + Twisted Citron + Squeezed Lemonade distress oxide ink. I found the perfect sentiment from an older Close To My Heart set in a crayon script and stamped it in Mowed Lawn distress ink.

I am linking up with the Lawn Fawnatics "back to school" challenge along with the "anything goes" challenge over at Heart2Heart.

Paper: White (SU); Coldpress watercolour (Canson)
Stamps: Village Heroes, Happy Village (LF); School is Here (CTMH)
Ink: Mowed Lawn distress; Twisted Citron, Squeezed Lemonade distress oxide (Tim Holtz); Archival Black (CTMH)
Dies: Village Heroes, Happy Village (LF)
